Upgrading your VW Golf MK8 gear knob is one of the most satisfying ways to enhance both the tactile feel and visual appeal of your interior. Whether you own a GTI, Golf R, or MK8.5 DSG model, this premium shift knob extension offers a true plug-and-play upgrade that delivers OEM compatibility with motorsport-inspired design.

This installation guide walks you through all the steps—from removing the factory shifter to securing the new knob—so you can complete the swap in under 20 minutes.

⚠️ Important: Please Read Before Installation

The base mount is delicate and may crack if force is applied from the wrong direction. Proceed with care and avoid excessive or angled pressure.

All components are pre-assembled and fixed at the factory (except the decorative coin). Do not attempt installation if the product arrives cracked, broken, or misaligned.

We're unable to repair or replace components damaged during installation attempts. If you notice any defect on arrival, contact OneMiniBite before installing.

What You'll Need

Plastic trim removal tools (to avoid damaging panels), a small flathead screwdriver (for unlocking the OEM shifter), a small Torx screwdriver (for disassembling the OEM shifter base), and a soft cloth or towel (to protect surfaces during disassembly).

Installation Overview

The gear knob extension install consists of two main parts: the lower component (gear shift housing) and the upper shifter control panel. Total time is roughly 15–20 minutes. Professional installation is recommended if you're not confident working with interior trim.

Step 4: Insert Screwdriver at a 45° Angle

Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the hole at a 45-degree angle toward the ignition button side (not the opposite). This step is critical — avoid touching or damaging the circuit boards inside, and target only the locking point. OneMiniBite is not liable for damage caused by incorrect handling; professional installation is recommended.
