Installation Guide — Defrost Vent Gauge Pod

Fits VW Golf MK8 / MK8.5 GTI & Golf R (LHD Only) – OEM-Style Injection-Molded Vent Pod

This installation guide walks you through removing the factory defrost vent and installing the OEM-fit injection-molded gauge pod.

Each step is written to match the clean, factory-style fitment and enthusiast-oriented tone of the product.

Follow the steps below and reference the images included with each stage.

Removing the OEM Defrost Vent

1. Pry up and remove the factory defrost vent

Lift the red-marked upper edge of the defrost vent and carefully pop it upward to release the factory panel.

3. Push out the left-side trim panel from behind

From the inside, gently push outward to release the left-side trim cover.
This gives you better access for wire routing.

4. Separate the upper portion of the side trim for wiring clearance

Pull the upper section of the side trim outward slightly — just enough room to drill a clean pass-through hole for the gauge wiring.

5. Drill a 15 mm hole at the marked location (recommended)

Using a drill bit, create a 15 mm wiring pass-through hole at the location shown in the image.
This size allows a clean fit for boost sensor wiring, AFR wiring, or power leads.

6. Feed the gauge wiring through the defrost vent opening

As shown in the reference image, route the wiring upward through the newly drilled hole and into the defrost vent cavity.
This ensures a hidden, OEM-style cable run with no exposed wires.

Installing the Gauge Pod

1. Tighten the gauge base and adjust the viewing angle

Make sure the gauge base and gauge pod mount are securely tightened.

2. Feed the gauge wiring through the pod — right side first, then left

Push the wiring into the right side opening of the pod first, then guide the rest through the left side.
This lets the gauge pod seat flush against the defrost vent.

3. Connect the wiring to your gauge and finish the installation

Attach the wiring to your selected 60 mm or 52 mm gauge.
For additional stability, you may apply a thin strip of tape beneath the pod to eliminate vibration if needed.
